Designing the decor for a new home is like working with an empty canvas and it can be especially exciting for first-time homeowners. But it can end up being a little overwhelming as well. You may be working with a bunch of furniture that doesn't seem to go together or you could have expended your space considerably with one of the new homes for sale in Ajax or Addington Highland. Whatever your circumstances, here are some tips to help you get started.

Start planning for the design of your new home well before your moving day. Take measurements of all of the rooms and make a list of all of the furniture pieces that you have in your possession in your Yorkville Toronto rental or current Addington Highlands home. Next, you want to check out some design magazines and get an idea of what you may want for your own home. It's a good idea to build a design for each room in that resale home Mississauga or Addington Highlands around one of your existing furniture pieces.

When looking at designs in magazines or books, set everything that you like out and look for common threads. You may be a person who loves jeweled tones or brighter colours. Once you know what you want it's time to start building the design for your own rooms. Choose pieces from your existing collection and make sure they fit in the space in terms of size. You can also adapt older pieces to fit a new design with things like slip covers, so don't leave anything out that you have room for. This will keep you from spending your budget on things that you don't really need.

It's likely that you will not be able to afford to complete all of your rooms as soon as you move in. Do your best to add a few new elements every couple of months. The key is to stay on track with your design ideas and not let some rooms fall to the wayside. When moving into a new home, it can take some time to unpack and get everything organized. Start by making sure everything is put into the right room right off the moving van. This will mean that you won't spend the first month in your Markham real estate looking for things.

Always been on the lookout for new items that might fit into your design. You could find an old mirror at an antique store that will look fantastic in your dining room to open up the space or a neat lamp in Islington Village that will compliment the paint colour in a bedroom. Even if you have a solid plan of the pieces you're looking for to complete a room, stay open-minded. This is the way to create a design that's really you.
